When You Rent a Dumpster What Can You Put In It?

Renting a dumpster on Cape Cod is a great solution for managing waste during home renovations, construction, or decluttering initiatives. Knowing precisely what items are permissible for disposal not only simplifies the process but also ensures a smooth, compliant, and efficient waste disposal journey. it is hard to say for each separate item, but here is general guide on what can go in the dumpster. Let’s explore what you can and cannot dispose of in a rented dumpster:

Acceptable Items for Disposal:

  1. Construction Debris: From wood and drywall to flooring and siding, dumpsters are generally suitable for most construction-related waste. Items include: wood, drywall, flooring, tiles, and insulation. If you have Asphalt Roofing, it must go In A Separate Dedicated Dumpster ONLY! Not all facilities accept Asphalt Roofing, Please let us know if there is Asphalt Roofing in the load.
  2. Household Items: Furniture, rugs, old toys, lamps, moving remnants, etc. The following items have a recycling surcharge, Appliances, Mattress/Box Springs, Freon items (like Refrigerators, Freezers, Air Conditioners, Water Coolers and Dehumidifiers) Televisions and Computer Monitors, etc. A full list of items with the charges can be found here: https://mydumpexpress.com/additional-service-charges/
  3. Yard Waste: Trees, Branches, Leaves and Grass Clippings are permissible for disposal In A Separate Dedicated Yard Waste Dumpster ONLY! WE DO NOT ACCEPT DIRT!
  4. Regular Household Garbage:  In A Separate Dedicated Garbage Dumpster ONLY! This includes everyday waste generated in homes, such as food scraps, packaging materials, papers, plastics, and miscellaneous items typically thrown away as part of routine household activities.

Items to Steer Clear of When Loading Your Dumpster:

  1. Hazardous Materials: Exercise caution and refrain from disposing of paints, solvents, chemicals, batteries, and electronics in the dumpster due to safety and environmental concerns. For the safe disposal of contaminated soils and absorbents, it’s recommended to reach out to Mass Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or locate the nearest household hazardous waste drop-off center.
  2. Liquid Waste: Prevent environmental hazards by avoiding the disposal of oil, gasoline, or other liquid substances in your rented dumpster.
  3. Asbestos: the safe handling and disposal of asbestos are critical due to its hazardous nature. Asbestos, commonly found in older homes, is classified as a carcinogen, posing severe health risks when disturbed or improperly handled.
  4. Medical infectious waste: including items like used syringes, contaminated bandages, animal carcasses, dialysis bags, blood or other materials carrying infectious agents, demands specialized disposal methods for safety and public health reasons. Due to their potential to spread infections, these materials cannot be disposed of in regular waste streams or dumpsters.
  5. Concrete & Brick: In A Separate Dedicated Concrete or Brick Dumpster ONLY!

By understanding what items belong in your rented dumpster, you not only streamline your project but also contribute to responsible waste disposal practices.
